So what exactly does RAM do? Simply put, it helps in multi-tasking, i.e. moving from one application to another seamlessly. The heaviest applications are games. So in the test two of the most popular flagship devices from Samsung - the Note Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge along with Zenfone 2 were made to run one heavy game after another without removing them from the multi-tasking tray until the phone itself force-closed it. The result was quite surprising.
First GTA San Andreas is launched on all the test devices. It is run for sometime on these devices. The game is still running in the background in all the devices. Next N.O.V.A. 3 is launched. It is made to run for sometime. Now the multi-tasking tray is opened to return to the previous game (San Andreas). It continues from where it was left off on all the devices. Next Asphalt: Airborne was launched, made to run for sometime and again the multi-tasking menu was opened. The jump was amde to San Andreas first. All responded equally. However as soon as the jump was made to N.O.V.A 3, all the Samsung devices started reloading the app. However Zenfone 2 continued from where it had left off.
The Zenfone was then made to run each of the games previously launched and it did so without a hiccup. Next Real Racing 3 was launched on it and the process of jumping between the previous app was continued. Next Dead Trigger was launched. The app was run for sometime and again each of the previous app were jumped to i.e. San Andreas and N.O.V.A. 3. However when jumping to Asphalt again, the phone finally gave in and restarted the app.
As we see, the two 'flagships' get knocked out in the second round. However, Zenfone 2 with its 4GB RAM provides an unbelievable multi-tasking experience.
